Performance

In D NO BODY installed, Dario drew inspiration from pop culture and the extravagant style of glam rock and pop icons known for their exploration of identity and gender, such as David Bowie, Madonna, and Michael Jackson. The solo performance follows dancer Adi Amit’s character as they search for the identity of a body in transition.

Background
In the annual DANSLOKAAL, Conny Janssen Danst, in collaboration with partners from the dance world, paves the way for novice dance makers. In 2015, Dario Tortorelli – working under the name DIVEinD – created the solo performance ‘D NO BODY installed’ with dancer Adi Amit for DANSLOKAAL 3.

Reflecting on this work, Dario reconnects with it through the lens of drag artistry – the transformative power to become someone different from our everyday selves. Drag serves as a medium for expressing the freedom to choose how we present ourselves in the world, allowing us to transform and change, ensuring we are never the same as we were before.

After the successful DANSLOKAAL debut of D NO BODY installed, Dario and Adi toured Europe with the solo and it was performed at the Nederlandse Dansdagen, Motel Mozaïque and in Bassano del Grappa. In the summer of 2024, D NO BODY installed will be back during theatre festival De Parade in Amsterdam (August 16-20).

D NO BODY series
This work remains part of the series “D NO BODY,” where Dario explores the concept of identity as a continuous process of transformation. The series challenges the notion of remaining static, highlighting the ever-evolving nature of identity and the fluidity of human expression.
