Charlie Skuy (Conny Janssen Danst)

Conny Janssen selects choreographer Charlie Skuy for the 12th edition of talent development project DANSLOKAAL. She spotted the talented choreographer during the Rotterdam International Duet Choreography Competition (RIDCC) in 2023.

Charlie Skuy is a Canadian choreographer and artist living in the Netherlands. He joined Nederlands Dans Theater in 2018 and created numerous works for the company’s choreographic platform, whilst dancing full time. Charlie is now performing and creating his work independently. His work has earned him awards, such as the Copenhagen International Choreography Competition. For his duet KEVIN he won the Conny Janssen Danst partner Award during the RIDCC 2023, performed with Emmitt Cawley.

Charlie also self-directed and produced numerous dance films and has recently been awarded in CINEDANS ’23 (film/choreography). He was commissioned for Assemble Internationale ’17 (Canada’s National Ballet School) and a full-length work for three older dancers at Origen Festival (Switzerland). Charlie’s passion for filmmaking, dance theater, visual art, and dreamlogic (David Lynch) opens several worlds and imagery in which he explores his relationship with fear, dissonance and aging.
